Yes, "Champagne" is a protected name in the United States, but with some exceptions. While new producers cannot label their sparkling wine as Champagne unless it comes from the Champagne region of France, some U.S. wineries were grandfathered in and can still use the term if they were already doing so before the agreement with the European Union.
